The purpose of this page is to show what Help Nathan Buy Firefly (HNBF) is all about and where they are going.  While you’re here check out HNBF in the News

It all started with a comment by Nathan Fillion in an interview with Entertainment Weekly,

“If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.”

In the week that followed the Internet went crazy any and Help Nathan Buy Firefly was born.  It started with three simple steps:

The Plan:

Phase 1) Generate momentum.   We’re going to setup a way people can pledge funding towards the mission of putting the rights to Firefly back into the hands of people who care about it.  Since Nathan said he’d be game to be those hands, we’re going to watch for ...

Phase 2) Nathan chimes in towards us and approves the effort.   At that point, it’s a real mission and we’ll switch into....

Phase 3) We’ll setup a way for the funding to be collected into a Non-Profit Organization. We’ll then want everyone to make good on their pledge and contribute.

After over $1,000,000 dollars had been pledged by loyal Browncoats and tons of publicity both good and bad, their Big Damn Plan was halted with one tweet from Maurissa Tancharoen,

"Guys, no one in the Whedonverse is in support of
www.helpnathanbuyfirefly.com. Please save your money!"

She later clarified to state that no one official was involved in the campaign.

Since then Plans have been put on hold and the face book fan page has become more of a friendly social place for the fans to gather, share links and discuss the show they love.

Even if Firefly never returns this movement has brought many more fans to ‘the verse’ and members have donated over $3,686 to our Big Damn Heroes’ Favored Charities or purchased BC:R helping them raise over $17,000 to be split between the ‘favored charities’ Also some of the member have been playing over at FreeRice getting hundreds of thousands of grains of rice to hungry people around the world.

Plans are currently in the works to create an on-line marketplace that will benefit Kids Need to Read.
